there’s a picture the HJIC took of us that night at the table. we were eating at Prego’s Italian restaurant in north dallas. i favor the original location on greenville but i haven’t been back since i left my ex. that was one of “our” spots. anyway ally and i are told to get closer to take this photo that i had a feeling neither of us was thrilled at the time to take.
the night had only just begun. my ex worked at a popular bar on lower greenville as the door guy and a few of us agreed to meet down there after dinner to continue the fun only without the squares. we all arrive safely and proceed to get pretty boozed. ally and i had more fun as i got to know her a little better. she was under aged and definitely drinking. shit, i was letting her drink out of my wine glass at dinner. then the LJIC bought shots. it wasn’t a problem. the allycat could hold her own. so we end up at the bar next door to get away from lurch. i’ll hold off on too many details but on our way home, ally is following my ex and i in her slut red cobalt… and hits a curb pretty hard landing herself a flat, right in front of my ex’s old apartments, the gate. the apartments were pink only he was color blind at the time (pre-lasik) and thought they were brown even tho i thought he was gay and intentionally lived in the flashy pink apts. these are the same apartments he lived in when we first began dating and partying heavily together. those apartments were repainted brown right around the time i left him. the time before this last time. i remember driving by them and thinking i was losing my mind. when i realized they had indeed been repainted from that beautiful coral pink to the death beige they are now, it felt as tho sadly, the life had literally been sucked out of them. symbolic and eerie as it was, i could relate in so many ways. anyway, i digress. we get ally’s car pulled into the parking lot there and give her a lift to a friend’s location at a nearby hotel. we dropped her off. it must have been around 3am. she was 18 i believe. i remember her looking back at me over her shoulder and my ex telling me not to worry. i let it go even tho i felt a little awkward as if her safety were my responsibility. fortunately, her friend helped her repair her car and even paid for it. what a great guy that dude was…
anyway, here’s ally’s holiday card shot and close up. notice the corners of her mouth pulling ever so slightly upward. :) she was trying.
